Toddler won’t Sit

I hear this all the time. I can understand the frustration -  investing your money, getting dressed up, making everyone look their best and, your toddler will not sit still, or runs away. That happens to me, yes, kids just want to be free and posing for the camera is definitely not something they like.  This little guy ran from me as soon as I pulled out my camera, but he soon was used to it.

But also, it’s  new and they don’t understand having this big black piece of equipment in their face - it’s scary. And so, I let them be - let them play. I go down to their level and follow them, let them lead, and those can be some of the best photos. This age when they’re so curious, but cautious and to catch them gazing at me, is a gift.

So, it’s ok if your toddler doesn’t sit still, they’re teaching us to be able to find the joy in just being, no pressure to perform…let me worry about that, they eventually warm up and you’ll get those beautiful photos.  And also, it’s these little moments of toddlerhood a parent never wants to forget. How silly and lovely they find life. They are toddlers for such a short time, and then, they grow up.

We all know the struggle of photographing toddlers. Their natural instinct to explore can make it difficult to capture those perfect moments. However, understanding their behavior and creating a comfortable environment can lead to beautiful candid shots. Embrace the chaos and remember that these moments are fleeting. Let’s celebrate the journey of capturing childhood memories!
